My horsey is saddle pad is not working, there are sores all over her back. l am sure it is NOT the saddle because when l put the saddle on by it is self it is nice, snug, and does not move.
My horsey looks really pretty, she is a nice tan (from the tanning booth l got her). l was thinking l wanted to get a buckskin baby from her so If l breed her to my darker tan hairless horse will that produce the buckskin coloring l need for my showing next year?
Last question: my mare is a gaited hairless horse, do you think she'd be able to run barrels? *after she is dont having the baby and l buy the right saddle pads*

Call the vet have them come out and take a look at it or call your local humane society and have them have their vet come out and look at it. Nothing to be ashamed of. They wont say you abused it only if their are signs of abuse

You might check to see if there are stickers or other things on the saddle pad that might be rubbing sores on her. l would definitely not put her down just because she has sores on her back, check with your vet first. Your theory sounds right about breeding her to a darker stallion to produce a buckskin color. As for the barrel racing, l would not recommend it , it is a tough sport especially for a new mom.

Maybe if u poke the sore they will smoosh back down? l do not think u need a vet just ride her ALOT more until they rub off.

l think you are somewhat of a troll, l get the vibe off of you.

You may want a vet look at ur saddle. It may be the pad but most often sores r cause by the saddle. It may be fitting to snugly & rubbing. If u want to try a different pad though the sheepskin wool pads r awesome!!!

l would not suggest squeezing them. You do not want to open the sore. Most sores will absorb back into the body when u discontinue the problem, ie) most likly ur saddle rubbing. You should keep & eye on the them & if they to brust then they need to be cleaned everyday to make sure an infection does not occur. It probably would be smart to stop riding ur horse to, because the continue rubbing with cause the sores to become worse & break open.

Heres a list of what u should be looking for when fitting a saddle to ur horse:

1. It should be sitting between the withers & the last rib; further back over the loins can make ur horse sore.
2. Can ur horses shoulders move freely forward & back without the saddle or saddle skirt pressing his/her shoulders.
3.You should be able to place 2-3 fingers betweenthe withers & the pommel at the front of the saddle.
4.Does the saddle make full even contact along each side of the spine, or r there places that bridge.
5. When u look directly behind ur horse the saddle gullet should completly clear the spine the entire length of the saddle.
6. Then when u mount & sit on the saddle, does the shape of the saddle cahnge?
7.Where is the lowest part of the saddle (the place u r most likly to sit & put pressure)? Check this by placing a pencil crosswise on the seat & see where it rolls.
8. When u tugged on ur saddle backwards & down does it stay in place?
9. Does the saddle rock whe puched from the front or from the back?

As u can see there is a lot to having ur saddle fit correcting & unfortunatly unless u custom make a saddle there will always be a minor issue, but most of the time it does not affect the horse physically.

It is ur saddle sweetie, l had this same problem. The sore is caused by ur saddle being to far back. You should be able to slip ur whole hand between the saddle & ur horses withers. If ur horse has a sore, then u cant ride her. If u do it will get infected & the infection can get down into her shoulder bones & then u will have serious vet bills. The best thing to do is clean it every day & squeeze it to get out any infection. Put medicine on it & keep it clean.
