Basically my horse is mane is falling out in chunks. he has a thick mane and today it seems to be coming out in chunks!
As it has been cold out he has had his neck rug on, but recently we have put his thicker rug on without the neck rug.

He does not seem to be rubbing his mane so it can not be irritating him, is it just because of the neck rug we have had on him recently? should we be worried? or shall we just leave the neck rug off for a bit? l did read somewhere that it may be due to lack of air circulation because of the rug.

i'd say its probably because hes had the neck rug on. Now you have a different rug on it should be alright i'd keep an eye on him tho and if it carrys on speak to a vet or something x

Yes, it may be because of his neck rug.
So . . . try and not use the neck rug for a while and see if his mane goes any better, then if not, l would call your vet, just to be extra safe!

If it is cold out his mane may be drying out and even though it is cold out l would deep condition his mane and then put a cooler sheet on him to dry him out. but l would say it was because of the neck rug.

Yes it is because of rug, lack of air..

It could be that he has got a touch of sweet itch? try some benzoate cream or anything anti fungal . hope this helps.

l worked with a horse a while ago and he lost his mane in that way, chunks fell out and we found out it was due to lice. Just get that ruled out too

Dude sorry about your horse, all my animals have been getting sick here lately too. Cat got pneumonia, Iguana broke it is toe, Dog is a yeasty beasty in the ears, and my son ( not an animal, well, hum maybe he is, has been sick too,) Best of luck to you, do horses get mange?
