ok so l just got my frist english saddle and l wanna get a wintec synthetic breastplate off of statelinetack.com but l do not konw what size to get they have it in cob size and horse size and my horse is not really big but not a pony she is about 14.1 hands and her weight is about 800 but she is still only 4 and she might get a little bigger so l do not konw. l do not want it to big or to small cuz l do not wanna send it back.
so what size do you think l need?



i wanna start jumping with my horse but there are no jumps at the barn where l have my horse and l do not have a lot of money to buy jumps so if you have any good home made junp ideas let me know.

l think u should get cob, because for one, ur horse is a pony.(14.2 is when its a horse) Also cobs r about that size & ur horse probably wo not grow much more.

About jump stands..here r some things u can use.
-cinder blocks(stack them anyway for any size u want)
-barrels
-saw horses
-buckets
-tires

You can buy some pvc pipe from ur local hardware store for jump poles. You can paint them pretty colors & buy flower boxes & fake flowers to desensitize.

*** remember not to use anything the horse can get tangled up in or caught in. Putting saddle pads/ coolers over jumps r okay, but stringing a lounge line for a pole for example is bad idea. Have fun & be safe!

To jump or ride hunt seat you do not need a breast plate if the saddle fits correctly, and in fact it may cause saddle fitting problems and sore your horse.

Please do not try to teach yourself to jump. You can play around a bit, but you will learn so many bad habits that when you finally get to take lessons, it will take a long time to get over those bad habits.

get horse size. although cob is large pony, if your horse is usually horse sized, then you would be surprised how small the breastplate would be!

there is a big difference in horses and ponies. and, even if the breastplate is too big, you can always adjust it.

Well u should wait until ur horse is a couple of years older before u start jumping. Horse typically grow UP until they r four then out until they r 6.

If you're still at the same stable when he is 6 then u can go to a home depot type of store in ur area & buy some LARGE PVC piping in 8' lengths & get about 4 of them. Then if ur barn has any old barrels laying around, u can use a couple to set up cross poles, but not before u use those poles as ground poles & can walk, trot & canter over them without ur horse touching one of them.

l learned how to make jump standards out of a book called Jumping For Kids. We just took a four by four and cut it to about five feet high and then around the bottom we attached two foot long peices of a two by four. Lowes cut all of the wood to size for us and all we had to do was drill the holes for the jump cups and attach the two by four pieces to the botton.
