I've seen it on TV when people train the horses. Its a circular yard, like a circular fence, and people tame the horses in there. What is it called, a ring?

l love it when people say we 'tame' a horse like they are wild, feral animals. They've been ''tamed'' for thousands of years, we just TRAIN them to do what we want them to, when we want them to do it.

They use it to lunge a horse. Which is when they make the horse walk trot and canter without being on them.

John Lyons' book describes how to use one very well. We used his technique when teaching our feral horse (untouched by humans until she was 3) to accept our touch, to be haltered, to be lead, and to be tacked up.

This is called a round pen. A round pen is used for training a horse. With a round pen, u do not need to use a lunge line, since the horse cannot run off, & the pen is just the right size for the horse to run around the edges, with the trainer in the middle, & work on: walk, trot or canter. An experienced horse person will use a round pen for many things, including ''join-up which is a wonderful way to get the horse to see u as the ''boss'' without causing harm to the horse or using harsh methods.
