That is sad. Sorry. By daughter has a horse and works as a ranch hand. l feel bad for you. l know she would not be happy if that happened to her horse because he is not just a pet, he is her working partner.

Awww
My friend lost her horse, too.
She spent alot of time with her horse
Before they put it down
She spent almost all of her time with it
And made sure it was very comfortable
Sometimes l remember l would go into the barn
and she woudl just talk to it
and brush it and hold it
The horse seemed to like it
But l really hope your horse makes it
l will pray for you, and your horse.
Good luck!

Cheer up a little. COPD in horses is not an automatic death sentence & if that is what ur vet told you, u need to get a second opinion. COPD can not be cured but it can be managed through treatment, medication & changes to his living conditions. Research the disease a little before giving up on ur horse. He could still have lots of quality time left. It is always devastating having to put a horse down - l should know as I've had to go there more times than l like to remember. But do not borrow trouble or sadness. Here is one link to look at & there r plenty more. Now get busy, so u know what u & ur horse r facing. Good luck!!!

im soo sorry that ur horse is sick.My horse did not die, but we had to sell her, & she is really far away, & l will never see her again. She was my favorite horse I've ever had & l will always love her & miss her forever. All l know is it is been along time since she is been gone, but l think about her everyday.and no horse can ever replace her. Just some advice about what l had to go through-- Do not try to replace him, or find another horse like him because u never will, u might find another great horse.but if u have a special horse that u love (it sounds like u do:D ) nothing will ever compare to them. It took me awhile to figure this out. l looked, & looked for another horse like Koko.but nothing was like how special she was. And l had a really hard time with my horse. l felt guilty alot, to love another horse besides KoKo.but if ur a real horse lover nothing will keep u away!! Also, make a big picture book of him, & if u got ribbons with him, hang them up, & keep his halter.it will honor him, & if u ever have days where u miss him really bad then u can just look at those things. Again, Im soo sorry ur horse is sick :( Spend all the time u have with him, having fun, & do everything you've ever wanted to do with him..

l do not think u will need to put him down. My old horse has heaves & they got pretty bad. The stable owner gave her a puffer alot. l wanted to get into showing & l knew there would be more vet bills ahead when she got older so l sold her to a little girl. She is in a pasture now & she has gained weight(place l boarded at was not good) & they can even ride her now. She is just being used as a beginner rider pleasure horse. And now l got a mare who l go into local shows with. But l miss my old horse ALOT. l was sad to see her go but she is in a better place.

EDIT: Also wetting down the hay helps alot!

l just lost one of my old buddies so l can relate. Let me share a poem that gave me much comfort.

Do not cry for the horses that life has set free a million white horses forever to be.
Do not cry for the horses now in gods hands as the dance & they prance to a heavenly band.
They were ours as a gift but never to keep as they close their eyes forever to sleep.
Their spirits unbound on Silver wings they fly a million white horses against the blue sky.
Look up into heaven u will see them above the horses we lost the horses we love.
Manes & tails flying they gallop thru time they were never yours they were never mine.
Do not cry for the horses they will be back some day when our time has come they will show us the way.
Do u hear that soft nicker close to ur ear? Do not cry for the horses love the ones that r here.

Do not give up on ur pal yet but if something does happen to him l hope this will give u comfort. Good luck & remember the good times.

l am sorry to hear that. l've lost a horse before. We had to sell her & l cried l swear non stop for a week. l remember the most valuable piece of advice given to me at the time was 'Your horse will always have a special place in ur heart reserved just for her (in ur case, him). lf u decide to get another horse, do not feel like ur replacing her, think of ur next horse as her successor.'
That really helped me alot since l did get another horse. l still tear up when l hear a certain song on the radio cause that is what was going through my head when l was saying goodbye to her.
lf u do have to put him to sleep, it hurts like hell 10 times over at first. l dunno for how long cause it is different with each person. But time can do wonderfull things. After a while, u will still be sad, but it wont hurt.
l really hope u do not have to put him to sleep, for ur sake. But keep in mind that, if u do, he will thank u for being strong enough to let him go.
