Hi! l asked a question about a half-hour ago about what l need to own my first horse. A couple people put down towels. (l know this is gonna sound stupid) but are there like, special towels or something?

l do not think so but l would check with a local tack shop to see what they have to say.

*Edit*The only kind of horse towels l can think of are the decorative kind so any towels l think would be fine.

Any good cotton towel will work. But remember if your horse is dark buy dark towels. Lint from a white towel will show on a dark colored horse. Or you can buy bar towels, they do not leave lint.

No it is not a stupid question. just regular hand towels can be used for so many things around the barn from cleaning bits to emergency wounds

l just use old towels. Thick beach towels r the best, but u also want several types. Following r types u should get:
Old, dirty small towels for wiping poop off ur horse, tail, & cleaning under the dock.
Large thick beach towels after baths. After u towel him dry, put a cooler on (a fleece blanket cut to fit a horse- many people just use regular microfiber fleece blankets & leave their horse in the crossties for a while to dry)
Small washcloths
Medium-sized towels for pretty much everything.

Also, in an emergency, u can use towels & duct tape on top of a wound until the vet gets there. Other people use diapers, which fit well on leg joints & hooves.
So if it is not already on ur list, get a large roll of duct tape ( l had to use some at a show, l tore a hole right in the crotch of my breeches before a class!).

EDIT: There r also these new cloths out, l think they're called ''ShamWOWs,'' which l think would come in handy to dry off horses, either after a bath or bringing them in from the rain.

l just use white cotton towels and wash clothes, those come in handy. The manager at our local Walmart knew l had a rescue and sent me a lot of both. l keep them in those plastic storage containers.

What u do is go to a home improvement store like Lowe is or Home Depot, or an automotive supply store, & get yourself a pack of the inexpensive terrycloth hand-towels they sell. You will find all kinds of uses for them & they're really cheap.

Hint for saving money: if something is marketed explicitly for horses, the price goes up, up, up. Try if possible to find the same or similar item at some kind of non-horse store. (Feed stores that sell livestock supplies, rather than just catering to horsemen, r generally cheaper than stores just for horses.)

No, any towels r fine as long as they r not too rough. Just some soft towels r fine. You will want a few different sizes though such as wash cloth size & full size like a bath or beach towel. You can get these in ur favorite color, ur horse is signature color (if he ends up having one) or just any random color as colors do not matter. l always just do Green because that was my leased horses color. You do not sound stupid though.

observe the back pocket of the grooms leading horses to the paddocks in top tracks like Santa Anita, Churchill, Belmont, u r sure to see one hanging out the back pocket.

listen people just cause u got a horse dosent make u a horseman, until ur rubbin' ur horse with one of these, u simply r not doing the best for ur horse.

No, there are not special horse towels. The best ones to get are like a pack of ten from the auto parts store. They sell them for car detailing, but they are a great size for keeping in your grooming box. And they are cheap.
