l give my horse an extra feeding and the people at my barn that also give extra feedings give a Coffee can full of grain.

well l do not know how may cups it would be but l know a Coffee can is about 1lb of grain. sorry l could not help more.

2. You can measure it by taking a measuring cup to the barn.
3. You should feed by weight, not volume.

Coffee cans have a weight measurement for coffee on them. And that weight does not transfer to grains. each grain will weigh differently, so a coffee can of one type will weigh more or less than a coffee can of another.
Buy a fish scale, with hooks on both ends, & weigh a coffee can full of ur grain by putting it in a bad with handles. Hold the scale in one hand & hang the bag from the hook, & u will see what one coffee can of ur grain weighs. Feed is sold, & recommended feeding amounts r calculated by weight, & not volume, so each feed should be weighed anyway.

l think people feed by weight.. l do anyways..

i feed my guy 4 lbs of grain a day.. he eats it twice a day.. so 2 lbs per feeding. and for me 2lbs is one scoop..

and a coffee can can maybe hold up to like 5-6 cups i'm guessing?? sorry i'm no help! lol

If u love ur horse & want to do the best job u can feeding him/her, please purchase a scale for weighing out ur grain. You can buy a decent scale for under $25, & it is the best thing u can do for ur horse is health.

Grain can vary in density, which means that the weight of grain that fills a 1-lb coffee can is going to vary. Unless u weigh the feed u r giving ur horse, u only have the vaguest idea of how much feed u r actually giving him.

It constantly amazes me that there r people who will lovingly spend money & time baking up treats for their horse, but who will not purchase a scale & weigh the feed they r giving the horse so they know exactly how much feed he is getting.
