what horses do police use at football matches in england

l have absolute idea.but l like them very much

l think they are mostly irish draught and usually males

most mounted officers ride gated horses or very big draft type horses

IDK why l got 2 thumbs down for having a correct answer. l live close to Nashville Tenn. & ALL the mounted police officers there use very tall tenn. walkers b/c they can move swiftly without loosing energy & the r known to have good temperments. As for the horses at the football games u r talking about they r typically draft horses of some sort. l think l would know, My dad is a state trooper & l have talked to the mounted police countless times & ALL the horses l see on the streets r gated.

they seem to prefer geldings, but some do have one or two mares.

add, police horses are not donated, they buy their own, because the horse must go through many triels/vettings., unlike the dog section where dogs are either donated or bred by the handler.

we use horses in the police in the uk & ireland because they r great at crowd control. if the horse is pushed it will push back against the pressure.

they r bombproof - literally, & they offer the police a way of seeing above the crowd & covering ground quickly.

they will tramp on u if there is a riot. they r very effecitve at what they do & r trained to a very high standard.

the police riders do a great demonstration at some of the bigger horse shows where the horses jump through rings of fire & the rider untacks the horse while still riding & stuff. it is amazing.
