just wondering what brands other horse riders prefer in riding pads and leg protection. l use pro choice splints and saddle pads.
also, what is your opinion on the types of saddle pads with air or gel in them. l have seen them around but wanna know if anyone really likes them.

for saddle pads and leg protection, l just look around and see what interests me and what do l need, l dont look at a specific brand.

for the gel pads and stuff like that, if you need it, then l think it is better than putting a seperate gel pad or something.avoids drifting. but l wouldnt use the air filled ones because they would make pressure points, this would hurt your horse is back.

l use the Impact Gel pad. l really like it. l had a short backed horse that is hard to fit, and had to try about 20 saddles/pads to figure out what fit him the best, and the gel pad seemed to be the solution. l use pro choice splint boots though.

l only use gel pads for my horses with a sensitive back, or ponies.
They dont do much. waste of cash.

for saddle pads, l think l use ariat. not sure!

l use pro choice for leg protection..saddle pads depends on my mood and what l find that looks nice, im not brand picky.

Professionals Choice is great! l love their saddle pads.

As for half pads. Do not buy the ones with gel. They spread out around pressure points.

l have a Professional is Choice SMX Air Ride pad for trail riding, a Professional is Choice Charmayne James Barrel Pad with Ortho-Sport for barrel racing, & a 3/4 inch hospital felt underliner with raspberry blanket for western pleasure.as well as a Lami-Cell barrel pad for my other barrel horse.. l layer it with a saddle blanket (1/2 lb one.)

For leg protection, l use SMB Elite boots (all 4 legs) on my 3 yr old, my sister uses Classic Equine is Legacy System boots on her 11 yr old barrel mare.and l am a HUGE fan of Saratoga Wraps for light work & support for winter riding (trail rides & such) as well as trailering, stable bandages etc..they r well worth the extra money!


l love gel pads--all my saddle pads have gel support in them--It doesnt have any negative affects at all--the saddle fits the same, the horse just has more cushion (especially on the pressure points!)

Depends what type of leg protection l am looking for. l like professional choice and eskadron, but if l am just using rubbing boots then the generic brand works fine.

l have an air-ride saddle pad for western and l really like it, but l have not had much experience with things like that. l know l like them a lot better than the regular wool kind.
