Yesterday l went to clean my guy is feed tub and there was foam in it, l just disregarded it but then when l fed him his hay at night around his mouth looked white so l looked closer and it was foamy saliva...Is this something l should be concerned about and call the vet? He is perfectly healthy otherwise...

He isnt rabid...so please dont waste my time if you are going to tell me he has rabies

Thanks =)
He JUST had his teeth done a few months ago...and l have the dentist out twice a year

l looked it up it said that a horse will foam from the mouth sometimes when they are relaxed and not to worry about it.but l would ask a vet to be on the safe side.

Omfg wtf he needs his teeth floated. Call the vet and get him to do it.

Where r u located barn? The reason l ask, is if u have pasture with clover, that can do it. But if it is cold & winter, that would not be the issue. It sounds like ur horse is just enjoying his feed & like a dog or person, it sets of the sensory glands & can cause excessive slobbering. You know how ur mouth waters thinking about chocolate ice cream? For the most part, horses slobber often, but usually it gets swallowed with the feed, so it is not noticeable. The other issue would be if he is young & is cutting teeth, which because that is normal, it would not concern a vet or require floating. As long as he is eating well, l would not fret too much. One other thing, look see if he may have sores or ulcers in his mouth that might be causing a little pain. ** Just other things to look for :-) l am sure he is fine.

Why people waste their time and yours giving you those stupid ideas, l do not know.boredom maybe, or a perverse desire to participate. Do not worry about the foam, it is not unnatural, but the next time you have something done by the vet, just in passing, ask him about what would cause this?

Remember when you are riding, we want to see foam as it is a sign of working the bit and a soft mouth. l have an old gelding that is now retired and he still foams at the mouth and he is usually relaxed and either chewing food or playing with his tongue. If you have had his teeth done and he is healthy, do not worry.

Has he been eating any clover? Certain clovers can produce this response if they eat a fairly large amount of it. Also, spittlebugs ingested in bermuda grasses will cause this. At any rate, it is a sign that your horse has been eating something that needs to be investigated, either in your hay or your pastures.

Sometimes it just happens when they are relaxed and happy. Most of the time I've noticed it with my horses after they have eaten clover. l am not sure how much clover you would have in the winter, but it could be a possibility.

Certain foods in a horse is diet can cause extra salivation or foaming from the mouth, as well as certain weeds/plants that should not be in a horse is diet such as foxtails which sometimes get mixed in the hay. The barbs get stuck in the horse is mouth and can cause foaming and sores/ulcers to form.just an example. If you're unsure, you can always ask your vet.asking costs nothing and, if needed, early treatment can save you money.

l would not worry about, sounds like he is playing with his food.

l took care of a stallion that would dunk his hay in the water bucket, & then take a long time chewing it. He would always have foam all over the place (water bucket, feed bucket, & everywhere in between).

Our older pony, who does not have a lot of tooth surface left, also gums her hay- chews it a lot before swallowing.

Same with foaming with a bit in their mouth, & u can do the same thing if u swish spit around in ur mouth for a while- u will foam.

Possibly, he is making his hay last as long as he can, & is wishing for more, or like l said, is just playing with his food.

It is possible that even though u just had the teeth done there may still be an issue. Or a new issue. He could also have something caught in his teeth/mouth & causing discomfort.
My own gelding is showing the same behavior recently & l am having the equine dentist out. He was due to have it done anyway this spring.
If u can do so safely try getting some help & a small flashlight & see if u can get him to open wide & see if u can see an issue.
I'd say though that u will probably need to get the vet out again.

some horses just do that when they eat it also could be because of his teeth being done
