l just got a new horse and l love him sooo much! what special things can l do to bond with him?

when hes turned out, get him used to your voice by calling him over. a trick is to turn your back on him if hes walking around, and hold your hand behind your back. dont show any interest in him, and this will make him curious about you. he will probably eventually come to you, and when he does, give him a treat and pet him all over! kisses and hugs dont hurt either :)

spend time with him. pet him, talk to him, give him treats. do not ride him every time you see him.

Make sure he is comfortable in his environment and ride him.

l horse will love u when they respect you. One day before u ride lunge him around a little, & really make him listen to you, do not beat him just control him [be the leader, make sure he respects you]. A horse love his leader because it is someone he can look up to for guidance. Then when it is time ti catch him mike sure he does not try & come to u [he should want to]. Then pet him & walk foward a few steps & see if he follows, if he does he trust & loves u because he respects you.

Do all the stereotypical things: brush him, hug him, feed him etc. The large thing that l know makes a horse love u is respect. Do not always make him lose, occasionally let him win but let him know when enough is enough. Do not give up until you've gotten what u want out of him. Set up a routine & spend as much time with him that is physically possible.

Once he is figured out you're not leaving his life, he is going to learn to love you, hahaha. Be patient & consistent & just love him. Just mentally think that u love him, tell him outloud that u love him. The tone in ur voice can be extremely convincing. That is just my opinion but l hope it helps, it helped me. Good luck!! (:

talk to him when your riding and when your just in his stall with him, show him your not gonna make him do anything that will scare him or hurt him for example if he refuses a jump let him check out before you ask him to do it again

Give him a chance to trust you first and get to know each other. Give him treats but not to many because he can become greedy.

brush him, pet him, give him cookies, talk to him in a soft voice, just love him, and you get love back.

Earn his respect and make him feel useful. Also have a daily, consistent regiment for him.
