What is the differance between medicine boots and bandadge wraps? Thanks :)

boots provide hoof & soft tissue protection they also protect the vital areas of the hoof, the full boot that goes right up the leg allows the horse to be fully protected & still has freedom of movement. bandage wraps protect the leg from stones, debris, basicially anything that may fly up at them while being ridden, but they do not protect the hoof. if u r looking to buy either boots or wraps l would choose the full boot that has both the leg wrap & boot together because it is the best way to protect both & provide support with flexibility. XD

Medicine Boots(aka Splint boots) protect the horses Cannon bone, and is a little easy to put on. Bandage wraps (or Polos) can be alot harder to put on, they do provide good protection for the horses Cannon Bone as well , but if they are put on wrong it can seriously mess up the horses leg.

Medicine boots (aka: splint boots, open front boots, brushing boots etc,) provide support by conforming to the horses leg (there r 2 ridges in the inside of the boots that allow it to wrap around the cannon & ''conform''. The fact that they conform (better than polo's) allows the muscle fibers in the leg to be ''compressed'' which upon impact (say after a jump) allows the muscle fibers to expand vertically to absorb impact but prevents them from also expanding horizontally, in which case would weaken the fibers even more, if they were allowed to expand d both ways. They also help to ''cushion'' any direct blow to the leg. Polo is provide little support, if any, & do not do much to cushion a direct blow to the leg. They were however invented for jockeys as race horses did not have much of a proper warm-up really so they used polo is (which at the time were secured with thread.lol.) & this added heat which increased circulation better. Also if u wrap polo is incorrectly ur horse can get a bandage bow or many other worse things.
