its just a local show or maybe a county fair. what would happen if l did use them?

You need to read your rule book, but if you are talking about the reins that are just one and not two separate ones. You can be disqualified for improper equipment.

you need double reins or romal reins, you can be disqualified or marked down for wrong equipment.

You can use them but its frowned on. l would just by a pair of cheap split reins to use for western pleasure. The reason why l ride with split reins in pleasure is so l can adjust my horse is head setting but also, in western pleasure judges like to see minimal contact with the horses mouth.

ya they should be ok as far as not breaking rules. but split reins are more professional. many of people at my co. fair use them, and do not get docked points hope that helps

They are NOT appropriate in the showring. You need either long split reins or reins with a rommal on the end of them.

Roping reins will get you disqualified.
