Do you ever spend time brushing out the mane of your horse...come back out the next day...and there are at least one or two twisted knots in the mane?
Not just twisted...but twisted, spun around itself and knotted in a tight little ball? And you try to pull it apart or pull it out...and IT IS STUCK!!????
And there is nothing like a stick or a piece of hay that even started the tangle in the whole mess.
l think the tangle fairies lurk in the shadows and watch...waiting for you to leave the horses. Then come out and play hide and seek in the horse is mane.Swinging like Tarzan from individual locks and causing knots.
Where do YOU think these tangles come from? l agree Karin...now kick your imagination into gear and tell me where you think they come from.:) Mule...they wo not touch the appy...just the mare.Maybe mine are bigoted? NOT A PROBLEM SWEET YOUNG THING!!!

l think that they get into your horse is mane because your horse sneaks out when you go to sleep. and l know what you're going to say, you do not sleep right? well it sneaks out when you blink. so you do not know. and it flies down to a ravine and then it goes on a journey and some tangle fairies tag along. and the horse does this so fast so when you open your eyes from blinking your horse has tangle fairies.

l do not know where they come from, but l know how to untangle them: liberally apply WD-40 (yes, the lubricant spray) to the tangle. Makes it a lot easier to untangle.

devils wire aka: Barb wire. They get there mane twisted in it really bad, then they tug. this tug, makes it where it ripped off the barb wire but not much looser. the best thing to do is untwist them. your horse will end up quit getting it is mane in the wire.

My mare GF is able to out run all the tangle fairy's, and Sammy 'n Bay B are able to stay away from the tangle fairy's.
Now Pa is horse Annie loves the tangle fairy's. She searches them out and roles in the mud in them. l have never seen one but l do know they exist.

Does she have any Jamaican bread genes in her pedigree? l believe they r called the rhasta mon's. She is probably finally connecting to her true heritage & religous beliefs. I've seen other horses of this bread that the rhasta mon is went for the tail too. DON'T wash them or try to undo them as they r a prized possession for Jamaican horses. You might want to knit a cap to keep foreign objects from attaching to the tangled rhasta mon is & preserve them. The more matted, the better.
Hope this helps!!

The tangle fairy lives at my house. l have a paint mare who l do believe needs a weave because her mane is so thin, long but thin.Well no matter what l do she gets tangled. l have a TB that has the same problem. l think they do it on purpose they like to see me struggle, or the tangle fairy is hard at work,

yes we have those same crazy partying tangle fairies at my barn too! they come here from outer space & decide to throw big parties all year round (especially in the summer which also happens to be show season) in each horse is stall so that the next day the horse is owner came come out & join in the fun. they look really weird too, they come in all shapes, sizes, & colors but have this magical ability to turn invisible so that all that is left in the stall is a horse that is totally tangled, but totally innocent. the tangle fairies that party in my horse is stall in particular r brown & cause some serious damage to my gray horse is mane & coat so l can spend 3 hrs. trying to get him clean, because it is just so much fun :) haha

l swear we have a couple poltergeists who like to leave feed bins open for the mice, tie the horses' manes and tails in knots, make the hose leak, jam the stall doors, etc.
Only thing that I've found that deters the darn poltergeists (from tying horsehair macrame at least): Weekly shampoos, liberal daily showsheen applications and combing, and for the really relentless case: training braids.

(rubs eyes) l have two halflingers.and you wo not believe the knots they get in this manes. My gelding has about a little over two feet of long, thick, white hair on his neck (the amount of tail he has will make your head spin), so l am hearing you. l have yet to discover fairies in their manes, but l keep my eyes open.

l am thinking l am having more of a problem with these little fairies playing havoc in my horses tails. l like a shorter mane so l think they tire of playing there as it is no fun to them. l also am having a huge problem with the the tangle fairies cousins, the buries. Just when u think ur place is free of them & the horses come in two or three maybe even four days free of buries & the horses having long beautiful flowing tails, then..... bam! There tail is full of them recking havoc again! l think they hide in horsey orifices, cuz tangle fairies & buries both stink. l vote open season on Tangle Fairies & Buries!

You disgust me with your sweet image of these cheeky yet not massively problematic ''fairies there is no fairies at my place, Just tangle MONSTERS who continue to reek havoc on my mares mane until we have to cut out big chunks.even though it is brushed everyday..freaking nocturnal nightmares they are!!!!!
l have a pic of one.they're rarely seen during the day but l snapped this as it was going to the watering hole.

You call 'em fairies.. l call them freaking little witches! This one witch actually tied a wire into the tail! That is just mean!
l am pretty sure they all live up in my pecan tree cuz late at night l can hear a type of whispering & cackles. l thought they were birds roosting but when l shine my flashlight up there.NADA!
Now if it aint the witches comin' to get my poor mares tail it is the wolf. We got a wolf that sneaks up & attacks the tails & knots them up. l think he hangs onto their tails with his teeth as they run & wring it.thus causing the knots.
*sigh*
merry Xmas!

During a lesson a chaos fairy found out when l was having a lesson (you must not ever tell of when u r having a lesson whilst walking through the field). And the next week l came over & got him out of the field l realized what had been done! The Chaos fairy placed burrs & grass & mud all over him & his mane & tail! It took away at least 20 minutes away from my riding time. l will never such as whisper or say again when l have my lesson while in the field, riding arena or barn! l learned to wait til l got home.

No, actually l do not but l think that might be because my horses r in a field next to a load of cows & there r a lot more horses just up the road. What l do get though is Mud Grubbers. However much grooming & spraying l do every time l bring the horses in they have chunks of mud just grubbed into their manes, feathers & UNDER their rugs - blasted things managed to get it all the way up Harvey is back despite his full necked turnout rug. My friend is unclipped ( & therefore naked) mare is like party-time for them she comes in looking as though she is been armour plated. They also seem to have quite a thing about ears - l have to chip the stuff off as well as dig it out of them.
