Probably after he stops acting like a stallion. (Wildness) or, put him up to a mare, (a gate between them) and see if he acts up. ( l have never had a male stallion, so l am just kind of guessing.)

It depends on the age of the gelding. If he is under a year it is usually safe immediately. However, if he is an actual yearling or older - then you should wait atleast 30 days. They can still breed for approximately 30 days afterward. Best wishes!

depends on the age of the young horse in question.

you need to make sure the swelling has gone down completely first. rubbing patronium jelly around & down the legs will help as the wound/stitches so to speak will drip a lil fluid & this will cause the fur to become matted ect. the jelly helps stop it & its easier to clean. walking around daily helps to ease the swelling.

anything under a year l expect id fine anythin older id be very wary. u would need to ask a vet to be sure. turn them out but do keep an eye on them for the first few hours/days.

hope ive helped =]

Obviously, u must first wait for him to be completely healed from being gelded. Horses, like humans can pop stitches, open up wounds & get infections if they get too excited or exuberant. l would ask a vet exactly how long it takes for him to get healed up & have the drainage & swelling stop.

Then, if it is a yearling who has never tried to or actually bred a mare, u could probably turn him out after the above has been accomplished. He wont know that he could ever have bred a mare & wont try.

If its an older horse that knows he is a stud, u should wait up to 1-2 months. As the testosterone leaves his system, he will stop acting studly, stop trying to mount, & just chill out. You will want to wait this long to make sure he is healed, & the surgery took- sometimes it doesnt & the vet misses an undescended testicle. If that is the case, u could still end up with a baby!

After he is healed from the castration. Any sooner than that you can stand a REALLY good chance of getting him hurt if he tries to mount a mare. l knew a gelding who the mares really beat on, then they turned him out with my then 12 yr old QH and his TB baby (Weanling) and when the little gelding tried to ''mount'' the baby, the old gelding who I'd NEVER seen be mean to anybody, whipped around and went after that poor little Arab gelding. That totally caught me by surprise!

well l will tell u something

where l go riding they have a 3 yr old gelding now,
but they got him 1 week after he was castrated, & he was jumping, running & well being very colty
they kept him in the round yard for 5 weeks!!
and now he is in the paddock next to the arena,
on saterday l rode my mare, & he still came galloping up, & neiging & was still acting colty.

if he is an older horse that has been castrated leave it about 5-10 weeks on his own in a round yard, maybe he could go with a group of geldings but l wouldnt suggest mares until he has settled down!.
l would say,
but if he is young like under 1 yr then he should be fine, coz he has not recognised his testosterone yet!
lol

We keep the boys and the girls separated all the time. It just causes fewer problems, fewer fights, and less chance of a gelding learning to mount a mares and giving them a uterine infection.

We all know that the mares run the show, but when they are in ''mixed'' herds, and the mare comes in heat, than the fights just go on and on. If we keep segregated herds, generally there is only a power struggle when a new horse joins the group.

Well, my mom had a stallion castrated and the vet told her about 1 month for every year they are old. He was 6 so we waited almost 7 months to be safe. We introduced him to my mare and he went crazy and tried to mount her (granted, she was in heat). We kept him away another four months or so, and it was still iffy. It really depends on the horse, so ask your vet and be prepared for anything.

It depends on the horse. Some horses take longer than others. When l gelded my 10 year old (long story), it took him about a month to stop acting like a stallion. He still does not get turned out with mares though. Not because he is bad, just because. If a horse is gelded at a young age, then they can be turned out with mares in a period of time (when they get old enough). Older horses might have some issues because they probably wo not forget.
