my daughter is too young know l know that lol she only 7wks but l wanna know what age would be appropriate to start her ridng horses? some say 1 and a half yrs and some say 2 yrs where smae say 5 whats your oppinion we have supper quiet school masters that know their stuff and ive recently bought a lovely australia riding pony and broke her in for her when my daughter is old enoughto ride her then she will mean time shes being leased WHAT do you think how old should a child be to start learning to ride a horse?

Well l know a six year old that has been riding since she was 2. and she was competeing by 4 1/2-5.

That is going to depend on the child, and the horse. You never know, she may not even like horses (GASP! but some kids just do not like them, painful but true). Make sure she gets used to wearing a helmet while she is young, maybe lead her around when she is 3 or 4 (old enough to control her movements and balance correctly), see what she thinks. Be safe, and do not pressure her if she does not want to. Good luck!

l say 2.5 to 3 at the youngest. l wasa going to say 3, then l remembered that we got our daughter her first pony at 2.5. The child must be old enough to understand some basic instructions/commands (sit up, hold the reins, pull back, kick, etc.) At that age, these are not really ''lessons'' but are more like structured expiences that put the child ahead so that by the time they are 5, they can really ride.

My parents got me a pony when l was 5. My kids were riding with me before they could walk. It is never too soon.

l would say you could start her at 2 1/2, that is when l started riding

My folks had me on the back of a horse 12 days from the day l was born. It seemed to work out fine for my.
My older brother was on a horse sooner than I, he was put on horses 10 days after he was born. l had to be put under the heat lamps a few days longer than he.

That is a really good idea with the pony. just thought i'd mention that. but l have had many friends riding since they were 1-3. l would say the younger the better. l would say when the child can listen, talk, and is potty trained, personally. So they know what to do, what to say, and so they do not wet themselves in the saddle.

well not ridding but as soon as 6 months l would have my child in the saddle with me thats what my mother did with me..and l gained a passion for horses that has lasted my whole life..

My daughter was 2 1/2 when l bought her pony - she is now five & starting to come off the lead for short canters. Her brother, who turned three in the summer, started at about two, & is getting the hang of rising trot. The baby is 13 months, & when she is a bit steadier on her feet she will be riding too.

What age children r ready to ride really depends on the parents - how ready u are, ur experience, whether u can get hold of a nanny in a pony suit (as l was lucky enough to do) quickly, or if u have to put a bit of work into finding the right pony.

l think that when your child can follow directions and understand that there are some things that you cant do around horses because it may scare them and when she understands how to lead a horse and such with your guidance and when you feel she is ready..age means nothing some children mature sooner then others
