I am 12 years old and l horse-back ride. l can walk, trot, and canter or lope in western, english, and bareback, with a pad or without. The one thing l am having trouble with, though, is 2-pointing. l know you have to stand up in your stirrups or irons and sick your butt out and squeeze with your knees, but l just can not seem to get my balance. What am l doing wrong?

You probably are not doing anything wrong. You need to learn to balance as yourself l am 12 and l love horses and work at a barn. Try holding on to your horses mane. It dos not hurt them one bit. l also would try to put your legs back a little at first.

Put your heels down and crouch (best way to put it l guess). Do not necessarily lean forward, just pretend your going to the bathroom (sorry!). Make sure you keep your heels down and keep your leg straight.

Practice at home. If you have a saddle and a good stand you can practice dropping your weight into your heels, and balancing in 2 point. You could probably also do this with your toes on a stair, with your heel falling off the edge.

It is not that you're doing anything wrong it is just that you need to make your legs stronger and to find your balance.

Do squats and lunges to build the muscle in your legs.

try squezing with your lower legs and thighs
you just need to build muscles
try riding with out stirriups to build muscle, but make sure you not pickin up bad habits when you do!!

Yes you are doing something wrong!!! Do not squezze with your knees. Use your calfs and theighs. At first you wo not be able to do 2 point for very long since you do not have any leg muscle. Also to build muscle trot sitting/posting with out stirups as well as lots of two point at the walk and trot

For me, it really helped my balance when l pushed my heels down further.

l dont thing you;re doing anything wrong. make sure you're down in your heels and your good. l imagine that l want to put my heel down so far so it makes a line in the ground as im riding. if you do that then all you have to do is practice balance. practice 2 point at walk trot and then canter. that should help improve your balance. practice it standing still as well. remember, its ok to grab mane!!!!! have fun riding and good luck on your 2 point.

l do not know if this is what you're actually doing but l found two things wrong with how you described a two point. first off standing up for your two point is not good and neither is squeezing with your knees. what you want to do is put your heels down and keep them at the girth and reach your arms up your pony is neck. it really helps! hope this helped some!

remember to grab onto the mane
stick your chest out and stand up

2 pt is hard it take a lot of muscle and a lot of balance..remember to squeeze in your tummy muscles this helps gain your center of balance. Dont get frustrated, and keep trying.

Oh look where u are going and keep you legs at the girth, it makes it harder but its a bad habit to let them slide back, plus it gooses the horse and they usually get upset or start going faster.

It is entirely possible that you are not doing anything wrong, but the saddle does not fit the horse or you properly. The lowest part of the seat should be about 6 inches behind where the stirrup leathers run. If the lowest part of the seat of the saddle is too bar forward or back, the balance of the saddle makes it very difficult to get into and stay in two point.

Try a different saddle. It might help.
