My horse, Serenity, is lame in her back leg. Our vet told us to exercise her in the pasture daily by just walking or trotting her. He said ddon'tlunge her though.

He leg gets so stiff because of the cold outside that she refuses. Once he get her walking for a few moments then she is better and she walks fine, but its hell to get her walking. How can l encourage her to walk with me without bribing her with a treat or using a crop?
Also, what are some suplements l can use to help her?

She is a rescue horse that l got but her old owners 'overlooked' (yea right, you cant overlook it but whatever) a huge gash on her leg by her hoof and after a few months of not getting better the local humane society took her because of it. It ended up destroying the tendon or something like that, she had to have a surgery.

She is much better now but not quite completely. The vet just said to walk her until spring and in the spring she should be completely sound again, hopefully.
Its about at the fetlock joint, if that matters.
i just got her a month ago but the humane society got her close to 8 months ago and had been healing her and done the surgery

tendon damage can take a long time to heal up to 18 months & not all cases r sucessful.
to get her to walk try this stand by her side & flick her with the lead rope its normally used for stubborn horse but u dont hit her with the rope u just flick her.
she is probably still in pain

When l am training a young horse to lead l usually put a long rope around the horses fanny. Use a lariat & slip the loop over the rump so that it hits the horse just under the butt & above the top of her back legs. l am going to try to find a website that demonstrates this for u cuz it is hard to explain. This technique works well & is gentle.

Ok first, put her halter on and a lead rope, get her in the Arena or somewhere and walk slow WITH HER. Hope this helps.

i would do regular leading.

l would try warming up her legs if being cold is the main problem. Warm some towels up with hot water and wrap them around her legs.
