Posting Canter is not common. You wouldnt be asked to do this at a competition. If you want to do it, you sit for a stride and post for a stride, just like at the trot, but with the bigger strides of the canter. When you are cantering you can be suspended(also called half seat or two point), you can sit(most common) or posting canter.

You can not post a canter. You can sit (''Full seat'') - this is when you are sitting in the saddle. Or you can half seat/ two point- which is where you kind of lift yourself out of the saddle and hold yourself in the air- this is what you do when you jump.

You can ride the canter in 2-point (also called half-seat), sitting (some apparently call full-seat), or posting. You post to the canter by rising out of the saddle on every other stride. Polo players often post to the canter. It is pretty comfy to do, especially if the horse has a very elevated canter.

You do not post when you canter. There is a full seat, a half-seat and that is it. :]
ADD: Someone said a half-seat and a 2-point is the same thing, it isn't. In half seat your his angle is closed just a little more.

you can too post the canter - http://youtube.com/watch?v=jSIvJbVWY30
most people do not though. usually you either sit the canter or you lean forward with your weight out of your seat - which may be called half-seat, two-point, or maybe even jump position.

There is no posting when you canter.at least there should not be. If you manage to pull that off, let me know. There is a ''full seat'' canter, and a ''half seat'' canter.
Here is cantering with a full seat. http://cache.eb.com/eb/image?id=1302&rendTypeId=4
And cantering in a half seat. http://lh3.ggpht.com/_bf7CTRYBsWI/R1NIVq4ZclI/AAAAAAAAEYs/I4kR-uQztOU/Eventing+Derby+027.jpg

Ashley is answer is the only partially correct one here- & by the way, YES, u CAN post at the canter. My sister plays polo as a hobby, & she & her teammates ( some of whom r rated professional players) ALL post at the canter, so l know it can be done. Basically, u just sit for a stride or two & then stand up in ur stirrups for a stride or two, making allowances for the extra beat & longer stride at the canter which most horses have. The other two seats u refer to here r the half seat, which is used when galloping horses long distances at high speeds, & the two point position, which is used for jumping.
In the half seat, u r positioned slightly above the saddle, & r leaning forward & moving in time with the horse. Two point position takes its name from the fact that there r only two points of ur body touching the saddle when it is done correctly- ur knees & ur lower legs. In this position u r completely up & out of the saddle, with ur body positioned over the horse is shoulders or along his neck. You move ur hands up along his mane ( & some riders will even hold a lock of the mane, especially if the horse has a big thrust from behind when he takes off to jump) & put some slack in the reins to give ur horse freedom of movement so he can balance himself correctly while jumping.
That answer ur question?

Yes, there is such a thing as posting canter. However it is not often used. It is more common to use the full seat (all the way back like a dressage rider) or half/light seat (still sitting, but more in the stirrups with shoulders forward like a hunter) or two point. Posting canter is great to use on a horse that rushes as u can use it to dictate the rhythm of the gait. You basically sit for one stride & r up for the next. It is also a good way to warm up the back of a stiff horse.
